Procedure

The doctor takes about 20 ml of blood from the patient, as in a simple blood draw.

The blood is placed in a special machine (centrifuge) that spins it at high speed for about 10 minutes. This separates the blood components into:

  • Red blood cells
  • Plasma with few platelets
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) – this is the therapeutic component

The doctor collects only the PRP, which contains a high concentration of growth factors, which accelerate tissue healing.

PRP is injected into the site of the lesion with or without ultrasound guidance for precision.
