HIP
- Description: Degenerative disease of the cartilage of the hip joint.
- Symptoms: Pain during movement, stiffness, decreased mobility.
- Treatment: Physiotherapy, anti-inflammatories, injections, hip arthroplasty in advanced stages.
- Description: Autoimmune disease that also affects the hip joints.
- Symptoms: Inflammation, pain, swelling, limitation of movement.
- Treatment: Antirheumatic drugs, physical therapy, in advanced stages surgery.
- Common in: Athletes or after sudden movements.
- Symptoms: Acute pain, swelling, difficulty moving.
- Treatment: Rest, ice, physical therapy, injections, surgery.
- Description: Interruption of blood flow to the femoral head → tissue necrosis.
- Causes: Trauma, cortisone use, alcoholism.
- Treatment: Conservative treatment or surgical treatment.
- Description: Inflammation of the muscles around the hip, from overuse or poor posture.
- Symptoms: Local pain, especially during movement or pressure.
- Treatment: Rest, medication, physical therapy.
- Description: Abnormal contact between the femoral head and the acetabulum.
- Symptoms: Groin pain, limited movement.
- Treatment: Physical therapy or arthroscopic surgery.
- Description: Developmental abnormality, mainly in infants.
- Treatment: Splints, physical therapy, surgery.
- Femoral neck fracture
- Area: Between the head and body of the femur.
- Problems: Blood supply disorder → risk of osteonecrosis.
- Treatment:
- In young people: Osteosynthesis.
- In the elderly: Total or hemiarthroplasty of the hip.
- ⮞ Intertrochanteric fracture
- Area: Between the greater and lesser trochanter.
Stable or unstable. - Treatment: Usually with internal fixation (intramedullary nailing).
⮞ Subtrochanteric fracture - Area: Below the trochanter.
- Usually more unstable and difficult to stabilize.
- Treatment: Intramedullary nailing or internal fixation.
